(국영문 동시배포) 캐나다 토론토에서 펼쳐지는 K-컬처의 향연, '2025 한국무형유산주간'(9.11.~23.)

  국가유산청(청장 허민)은 국가유산진흥원(원장 이귀영)과 함께 오는 9월, 11일부터 23일까지 캐나다 토론토에서 <2025 한국무형유산주간(Korea Intangible Cultural Heritage Week 2025)> 전통문화행사를 개최한다.

<한국무형유산주간>은 한국의 무형유산과 전통문화를 특정 기간 동안 해외에 집중 소개하는 행사로, 그동안 벨기에, 프랑스, 아르헨티나 등 여러 나라에서 열려 많은 관심을 받았으며, 올해는 캐나다 토론토에서 전시와 공연, 체험 행사 등 다양한 프로그램으로 한국 문화를 알릴 예정이다.

■ '김씨 부인'의 하루로 꾸민 한국의 전통공예
'Once Upon a Day of Lady Kim with K-craft(한국 여성의 어느 하루)' 전시가 9월 11일 개막식을 시작으로 9월 23일까지 디스틸러리 디스트릭트(Distillery District) 내 알타 갤러리(Arta Gallery)에서 열린다.

전시는 가상의 인물 '김씨 부인'의 시선으로 한국의 규방문화와 전통공예를 소개하며 여성의 삶과 지혜, 아름다움을 표현한다. 국가무형유산 침선장 구혜자 보유자의 전통한복, 입사장 홍정실 보유자의 혼례함, 두석장 김극천 보유자의 빗접 등 국가무형유산 전승자와 공예가들의 작품 91종 192점을 무료로 관람할 수 있다.

■ 로얄 온타리오 박물관에서 전통공예와 한복 입기 체험
9월 13일과 14일에는 연간 약 140만 명의 관람객이 방문하는 캐나다 최대 박물관인 '로얄 온타리오 박물관(Royal Ontario Museum)'에서 전통공예 체험과 한복 입기 체험 등을 운영한다. 체험은 누구나 현장 접수로 무료(박물관 입장료는 별도) 참여할 수 있다.

■ 캐나다 토론토에 울려 퍼지는 아리랑
국가무형유산 공동체종목* 아리랑을 알리는 전통예술공연 'Living, Time, Arirang(삶, 시간, 아리랑)'이 9월 13일 저녁 7시, 메르디안 아트센터(Meridian Arts Centre)에서 열린다.
* 국가무형유산 공동체종목: 광범위한 전승기반을 바탕으로 지역·세대를 초월하여 전승되는 종목으로, 특정 보유자 없이 해당 종목을 향유하는 국민 누구나 전승자가 될 수 있는 무형유산으로, 아리랑을 포함 현재 23개 종목이 지정되어 있음.

공연 1부 '삶(Living)'에서는 국가무형유산 판소리 김일구 보유자, 경기민요 이춘희 보유자가 무대에 올라 전통 아리랑과 함께 명인들의 예술성을 선보인다. 2부 '시간(Time)'에서는 현대적인 감각으로 재해석한 아리랑을 만날 수 있다. 국악 퓨전그룹 '예결밴드', 현대 무용가 박철우, 작곡가 원일, 국가유산진흥원 예술단 등이 참여하여 장르와 세대를 아우르는 공연을 펼칠 예정이다.
공연은 8월 27일부터 누리집(www.arirang2025.kr)에서 무료로 예매할 수 있다.

한편, 2025 한국무형유산주간의 프로그램(전시·체험·공연)에 참여해 도장을 받으면, 인기 만화 영화(애니메이션) '케이팝 데몬 헌터스'에 등장한 '노리개'와 수공예 파우치 등을 받을 수 있는 행사도 열린다.

국가유산청과 국가유산진흥원은 K-컬처에 대한 세계적인 관심 속에 캐나다에서 열리는 <한국무형유산주간>으로 현지인들이 한국 전통문화를 즐기고 이해하는 특별한 계기가 되기를 바라며, 앞으로도 무형유산의 가치를 확산하는 적극행정을 이어나갈 예정이다.

The Korea Heritage Service (Administrator: HuhMin) and the Korea Heritage Agency (President:LeeGwi-young) will bring Korea's living traditions to Toronto this September with a special exhibition and performance marking Korea Intangible Cultural Heritage Week 2025.

The exhibition, Once Upon a Day of Lady Kim with K-craft, runs from September 11 to 23 at Arta Gallery. Framed around the imagined daily life of "Lady Kim," it showcases the resilience, beauty, and wisdom of Korean women through traditional craft. Visitors will encounter 192 works across 91 categories by master artisans and intangible heritage successors. Highlights include a gold-and-silver inlaid peony wedding chest by a holder of national intangible cultural heritage Ipsajang (Silver or gold inlaying) Hong Jeong-sil, a set of traditional garments by a holder of national intangible cultural heritage Chimseonjang (needlework) Koo Hye-ja, and a comb case by a holder of national intangible cultural heritage Duseokjang(metal craft) Kim Geuk-cheon. The exhibition is arranged into themed spaces reflecting different aspects of women's lives, including personal adornment, household craftwork, and family traditions, offering audiences a vivid glimpse into how Korean women's artistry has been woven into daily life for generations.

Hands-on activities will also be offered at the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) on September 13 and 14, including knot craft, embroidery pouch making, and a Hanbok experience. These programs are free of charge and open to the public, with participation available on-site without advance reservation.

During Korea Intangible Cultural Heritage Week 2025, a performance will celebrate community-based intangible cultural heritage practices—23 traditions, including Arirang, that are passed down across regions and generations and remain open for everyone to carry forward. On Saturday, September 13, at 7:00 p.m., the Meridian Arts Centre will present Living, Time, Arirang, a program built around Korea's most iconic folk song.

The performance will be presented in two acts. Part 1, "Living," highlights the profound artistry of master performers, including Kim Il-koo (Pansori) and Lee Chun-hee (Gyeonggi Minyo), with instrumental collaborations bridging Korean traditions across time.

 
Part 2, "Time," reinterprets Arirang in contemporary forms with the YEGYUL fusion band, choreographer ParkCheol-woo, composer Wonil, and the Korea Heritage Agency Performance Arts Group, blending music, dance, and audience participation. Beyond entertainment, the performance underscores the cultural significance of Arirang as a shared heritage that continues to evolve, demonstrating how a centuries-old folk song can remain relevant to new generations and resonate across cultural boundaries. Admission is free, with advance reservations available from August 27 through the official event website: www.arirang2025.kr.

Visitors to the week's events can also join a stamp program, receiving commemorative gifts such as Norigae (traditional ornaments) featured in the Netflix film KPop Demon Hunters.

The Korea Heritage Service says the exhibition and performance are designed to give Canadians a deeper appreciation of Korea's traditional culture while reaffirming the value of intangible heritage in today's world.
