First and foremost, I wish to express my highest respect for your loved ones—those Americans who were killed or went missing in action while fighting for the freedom and peace of our country.
또한, 사랑하는 가족을 떠나보내고 긴 세월 동안 슬픔을 견뎌오신 유가족 여러분께 진심 어린 위로의 말씀을 드립니다.
I also extend my heartfelt sympathies to the family members who have endured decades of uncertainty and pain from their loss.
방금, <토미 이반츠(Tommy J. Evants)>님의 편지를 들으며 아직 유해를 찾지 못한 형 <바비 이반츠(Bobbie Evants)> 용사님을 향한 그리움을 고스란히 느낄 수 있었습니다.
I was particularly moved by the deep longing for his brother expressed in Mr. Tommy J. Evants’ letter to the late Bobbie Evants, which was shared earlier.
지금으로부터 74년 전, 북한의 남침으로 대한민국이 위기에 처했을 때 미국은 유엔안전보장이사회의 즉각적인 파병 결정을 이끌어내고 22개 참전국 중 가장 많은 약 180만 명의 용사를 보내준 나라입니다.
Seventy-four years ago, the United States led the UN Security Council in a swift decision to send troops to aid the Republic of Korea, which was under severe threat from the North's surprise attack. The US deployed the largest contingent, contributing 1.8 million service members among the 22 Sending States.
미국의 헌신적인 지원과 희생에 힘입어 대한민국은 북한군과 중공군의 침략을 격퇴하고 자유와 민주주의를 지켜낼 수 있었습니다.
Thanks to the dedicated support and sacrifices of the United States, the Republic of Korea was able to defend itself against the assaults from North Korea and the Chinese Communist Army, safeguarding our freedom and democracy.
정전협정이 체결되고 71년이 흐른 지금, 대한민국은 세계 10위권의 경제 대국이자 문화로 세계를 선도하는 나라가 되었습니다.
Today, 71 years after the signing of the Armistice Agreement, the Republic of Korea stands as the 10th largest economy in the world and a leader in cultural influence.
이러한 대한민국의 눈부신 성장은 6·25전쟁에 참전하여 전사·실종 또는 포로가 되신 약 4만 5천 미국 영웅들의 숭고한 희생이 매우 의미 있는 것이었음을 증명하고 있습니다.
This remarkable growth is a testament to the noble sacrifices made by the 45,000 Americans who lost their lives or went missing during the Korean War; it proves that their contributions were very meaningful.
대한민국 국민들은 한 번도 만난 적 없던 대한민국을 위해 미국 영웅들이 흘린 피와 땀, 그리고 유가족 여러분의 눈물을 늘 기억하고 있습니다.
The people of Korea will always remember the blood and sweat shed by these American heroes for a people they had never met, as well as the tears of their families.

The missing man table before us honors those fallen, missing, and imprisoned military service members, symbolizing our nation’s heartfelt hope for their return.
아직도 이 땅에는 많은 미국 영웅들이 묻혀계십니다.
대한민국 정부는 이 땅에 잠들어 계신 영웅들이 하루빨리 사랑하는 가족의 품으로 돌아가실 수 있도록 최선을 다하겠습니다.
There are still many American heroes who rest in this land. The Korean government is committed to finding and repatriating them to their loving families at the earliest possible time.
또한, 미국 영웅들의 고귀한 희생을 잊지 않고 피로 맺어진 한미동맹의 역사와 가치를 미래로 계승해 나가기 위해 재방한, 현지 위로 행사, 후손 캠프 등을 지속적으로 추진해 나가겠습니다.
We will also pursue various initiatives, such as inviting families and children to our country through Revisit or Peace Camp and visiting the Sending States to host veterans’ events, ensuring we never forget the noble sacrifices made by American heroes and preserving the values and history of the ROK-U.S. alliance, forged in blood, for future generations.
