안녕하십니까. 대한민국 국가보훈부 차관 이희완입니다.
Distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen,
Good evening. I am Lee Hee-wan, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs of the Republic of Korea.

탈리스만 세이버 훈련 중, 대한민국 해군 마라도함에서
리셉션을 개최하는 것을 진심으로 뜻깊게 생각합니다.
I find it deeply meaningful that this special reception is being held aboard the ROKS Marado during the Exercise Talisman Sabre.

오늘 이 자리에 많은 분들이 와계시다고 들었습니다.

I have heard that many esteemed guests are present here today.
First and foremost, I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to the Korean War heroes:
Mr. Nak Yoon Paik, President of the Korean War Veterans Association (KWVA) of Australia, Mr. Byung Ju Cho and Mr. Jae Keuk Cho from KWVA Australia, Mr. Johny Bineham, Mr. James Reardon, Mr. Sheridan O'brien, and Mr. John Beresford.

저 또한 대한민국 해군으로 28년간 복무한 경험이 있기에
세계평화를 위한 최전선에서 노력하고 있는
대한민국 해군, 해병대, 육군 특전사 장병
여러분 모두에게 진심 어린 박수를 보내드리며
오늘 이러한 뜻깊은 자리를 만들어 주셔서
진심으로 감사드립니다.
As someone who also served in the ROK Navy for 28 years, I offer my sincere respect and applause to every member of our Navy, Marine Corps and Army Special Forces who continue to dedicate themselves on the frontlines for global peace. Thank you for making this meaningful gathering possible.

대한민국은 역사적으로 수많은 도전과 시련을 겪으면서도
언제나 든든한 동맹국들의 도움과 지지를 받아왔습니다.
The Republic of Korea has overcome many trials and tribulations throughout its history, always supported by strong alliances.

특히 호주는 우리나라와 깊은 인연을 맺은 국가로
6·25전쟁 당시, 미국에 이어 두 번째로 참전을 결정해
1만 7천여 명의 장병을 파병해 주었고,
가평 전투, 마량산 전투 등 수많은 전투에서
대한민국의 자유를 위해 싸워주었습니다.
Among those, Australia holds a particularly deep and special bond with Korea. It was the second nation, after the United States, to commit troops to the Korean War, sending over 17,000 service members. In crucial battles like those at Gapyeong and Maryang-san, they fought bravely for Korea’s freedom.

우리 정부와 국민들은 포화가 빗발치는 전쟁터에서
목숨을 걸고 싸우셨던 호주 참전용사의 공헌을 잊지 않고 있습니다.
The Korean government and people have never forgotten the noble contributions of Australian veterans of the Korean War who risked their lives on the frontlines.

참전용사의 투혼이 있었기에 대한민국의 번영이
있음을 앞으로도 영원히 기억할 것입니다.
It is thanks to their courage and sacrifice that Korea enjoys the prosperity it does today —and we will remember this, always.

이를 위해 대한민국 국가보훈부는
유엔참전용사님들을 모시는 재방한 초청사업, 후손 캠프, 장학사업 등을 통해
6·25전쟁으로 맺어진 역사와 인연을
미래로 이어나가는 데도 만전을 기하고 있습니다.
To honor this legacy, the ROK Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs continues to carry out programs that preserve and extend the bonds forged during the Korean War, such as the Revisit Korea program for UN veterans, youth camps, and scholarship initiatives.

여기 재호동포 여러분께서도 보훈활동에
적극 참여하시고 계시다고 들었습니다.
I’ve also learned that many of our compatriots here in Australia actively participate in veterans’ affairs.

한국전 참전비 관리위원회 등 자원봉사와 헌신으로
적극적인 보훈활동을 해 주시는 여러분께
이 자리를 빌어 감사의 말씀 전합니다.
Through your volunteer work and commitment, especially with the Korean War Memorial Management Committee, you have become a vital part of our remembrance efforts. Please accept my heartfelt thanks.

올해 대한민국 해군은 '탈리스만 세이버' 연합훈련에서
최초로 상륙작전 훈련의 지휘관 임무를 수행하는
역사적인 전기를 맞았습니다.
This year, the Republic of Korea Navy is taking part in the Talisman Sabre exercise in a landmark role as the lead command for the amphibious landing operation, for the first time in our history.

이는 우리가 더 이상 군사력에 있어서도
그 어느나라 못지 않게 강한 나라로 도약하고 있다는 것을 증명한다고 생각합니다.
이 자랑스러운 순간을 기념하게 되어서 기쁘게 생각합니다.
I believe that this milestone is proof that Korea is now a nation of formidable strength, not only in spirit, but in military capability as well. I am proud to celebrate this historic moment with all of you here.

부디 오늘 이 자리가 군사외교와 우호관계를
더욱 단단히 다지는 소중한 기회가 되기를 바라며
자랑스러운 대한민국 해군의 순항과
승조원, 한국전쟁 참전용사 여러분, 그리고 여기 계신 모든 분들의
건강과 건승을 진심으로 기원합니다.
감사합니다.
I sincerely hope that today’s event will further strengthen military diplomacy and our bonds of friendship. I extend my best wishes for the continued success of the proud ROK Navy, and for the health and happiness of all our sailors, our Korean War veterans, and every distinguished guest here today.
