로렌스 웡 총리의 말씀이 뜻깊게 와닿은 하루입니다.
새 학기 첫날, 친구를 만나는 설렘처럼 웡 총리님과 다시 마주했습니다. 지난해 11월에 이어 불과 네 달 만의 재회입니다.
대한민국과 싱가포르는 자유무역과 다자주의라는 핵심 가치를 공유하며 지난 반세기 동안 신뢰와 우정을 쌓아온 동반자입니다. 제한된 자원과 도전적인 환경을 극복하며 성장을 이뤄온 공통의 경험도 지니고 있습니다.
작년 11월 서울에서 '전략적 동반자 관계'를 수립하며 향후 50년, 100년을 향한 협력의 이정표를 세웠다면, 이번 만남은 급변하는 국제 환경 속에서 지속 가능한 공동 번영을 실현하기 위한 협력을 본격화하는 계기가 되었습니다.
오늘 웡 총리님과 저는 정치, 외교, 경제, 안보, 기술을 비롯한 여러 분야에 걸쳐 전략적 동반자 관계를 한층 심화하기 위한 실질적 협력 방안을 논의했습니다.
먼저, 양국은 한-싱가포르 FTA 개선 협상을 개시하기로 합의했습니다. 디지털 통상, 공급망, 그린 경제 등 새로운 환경을 반영해 통상 규범을 현대화함으로써 보다 호혜적이고 미래지향적인 협력 기반을 구축해 나갈 것입니다.
투자 협력 관련, 산업은행과 싱가포르 테마섹 자산운용그룹인 세비오라 간 협력을 통해 우리 중소기업과 혁신 산업에 대한 글로벌 투자 확대의 기반을 마련했습니다. 양국 경제 협력의 지평을 넓히는 의미 있는 출발점이 되길 기대합니다.
대한민국과 싱가포르는 AI 등 첨단 기술의 혜택을 모두가 누릴 수 있어야 한다는 같은 비전을 가지고 있습니다. 오늘 '한-싱 AI 커넥트 서밋'을 통해 양국의 미래 인재들을 만나며, 우리가 AI 기본사회를 함께 준비해 나갈 신뢰할 수 있는 동반자임을 다시 한번 확인했습니다.
아울러 AI 전환에 필수적인 에너지 안보를 위한 원전 분야를 포함해 우주, 위성, 양자 등 첨단 과학기술 분야에서도 협력을 확대해 나가겠습니다. 첨단 기술을 토대로 한 안보 역량 강화 역시 중요한 협력 과제가 될 것입니다.
중동 정세와 한반도 문제 등 지역 및 국제 현안에 대해서도 의견을 교환했습니다. 특히 중동의 불확실성이 국제 에너지 수급에 미치는 영향에 공동 대응하고, 중동의 평화와 안정이 조속히 회복되길 바란다는 데 뜻을 같이 했습니다.
함께 가면 더 멀리, 더 확실하게 앞으로 나아갈 수 있습니다. 이번 대한민국과 싱가포르의 뜻깊은 만남이 양국 국민 모두에게 희망과 신뢰의 메시지가 되었으면 좋겠습니다.

<Republic of Korea-Singapore, Stepping Towards the Future>
"Good things in life are worth waiting for" It is a day which Prime Minister Wong's words deeply resonated.
I met Prime Minister Wong again with the same excitement as reuniting with a friend on the first day of a new semester. It was a reunion just four months after our meeting last November.
Korea and Singapore have built trust and friendship over the past half century as partners sharing the core values of free trade and multilateralism. We also share the common experience of overcoming limited resources and challenging circumstances to achieve growth and prosperity.
If the establishment of a "Strategic Partnership" in Seoul last November marked a milestone for cooperation for the next 50 years, this meeting served as an opportunity to fully activate cooperation to achieve sustainable shared prosperity, in the face of volatile international environment.
Today, Prime Minister Wong and I have discussed practical measures for cooperation to further deepen our strategic partnership across various areas, including politics, diplomacy, economy, security, and technology.
First, our two countries agreed to launch negotiations to upgrade the Korea-Singapore FTA. By modernizing trade rules to reflect new circumstances such as digital trade, supply chains, and the green economy, we will establish a foundation for more mutually beneficial and future-oriented cooperation.
For the investment cooperation, the partnership between the Korea Development Bank (KDB) and Seviora, Temasek-owned Asset Management Group, will pay the foundation for expanding global investment in our SMEs and innovative industries. I hope this will serve as a meaningful stepping stone for broadening the horizon of our bilateral economic cooperation.
Korea and Singapore share the same vision: everyone should be able to enjoy benefit from advanced technology, including AI. Today, at the Korea-Singapore AI Connect Summit, after meeting with young talents from both countries, I am convinced we are trustworthy partners to jointly prepare for an AI-based society.
We will also expand our cooperation in nuclear energy, which is essential for energy security in the AI transition, as well as in advanced science and technology fields including space, satellites and quantum computing. Strengthening security capabilities based on advanced technologies will also be a key task for cooperation.
We also exchanged views on current regional and international issues, including the situation in the Middle East and the Korean Peninsula. In particular, we agreed to jointly address the impact of uncertainty in the Middle East on global energy supply and hoped for a swift restoration of peace and stability.
Together, we can go further and with greater confidence. I hope this meaningful meeting between the Republic of Korea and Singapore will serve as a message of hope and trust to the peoples of both countries.
