함께 만든 오늘을 기억하고, 함께 열 내일을 기대하며

양국 수교 77주년을 맞이하는 기념비적인 날, 오랜 친구이자 우방국인 필리핀을 방문할 수 있어 더욱 뜻깊은 시간이었습니다.

필리핀은 한국 전쟁 당시 아시아 국가 가운데 최초이자 최대 규모로 파병하며 우리나라의 평화와 자유를 위해 함께 싸웠습니다. 필리핀의 숭고한 희생이 지금의 대한민국을 일구는 데 큰 힘이 되었듯, 오늘 우리 두 정상이 함께 하기로 한 약속 또한 양국 국민의 삶을 더욱 풍요롭게 하는 굳건한 토대가 될 것입니다.

수교 기념일에 열린 한-필리핀 정상회담은 새로운 미래를 함께 열어나가는 장이었습니다.

먼저, 양국 간 교역 및 투자 확대를 위해 한-필리핀 FTA의 활용도를 높여 나가겠습니다. 기업의 진출을 촉진하고, 역내 교역과 투자를 활성화해 동반 성장을 이루어갈 것입니다. 아울러 인프라와 방산을 비롯한 전략 산업 분야에서도 협력을 공고히 할 계획입니다.

조선, 원전, AI·디지털 등 신성장 산업에서도 협력의 지평을 넓혀 나가겠습니다. 특히 핵심광물 공급망 분야에서의 호혜적 협력을 모색함으로써, 글로벌 경제 환경 변화에 함께 대응할 것입니다. 양국이 힘을 모을수록 공동 번영의 시너지가 커지리라 기대합니다.

마르코스 대통령님과 저는 활발한 문화적, 인적 교류야말로 양국을 이어주는 가장 든든한 가교라는 점에 깊이 공감하며, 한국어 및 문화협력 관련 MOU를 체결해 인적 교류를 더욱 확대해 나가기로 했습니다.

무엇보다 필리핀에 체류 중인 우리 국민의 안전과 생명을 위해 필리핀 경찰 내 '코리안 헬프 데스크'를 설치하며 전방위로 지원해 주고 계신 마르코스 대통령님께 깊은 감사를 전합니다. 우리 정부 역시 한국 내 필리핀 노동자의 안전과 다문화 가정의 안정을 위해 지속적인 관심을 기울이겠습니다.

이번 정상회담이 한국과 필리핀의 우정과 협력을 한층 두텁게 하는 계기가 되길 기원합니다. 야자수와 바다를 배경으로 펼쳐진 아름다운 불꽃놀이는 오래도록 기억에 남을 것입니다. 뜨겁게 환대해주신 마르코스 대통령님과 필리핀 국민 여러분, 진심으로 고맙습니다.

On the historic occasion marking the 77th anniversary of diplomatic relations between our two countries, it was especially meaningful for me to visit the Philippines, a long-standing friend and close partner.

During the Korean War, the Philippines was the first Asian country to dispatch troops, fighting for the peace and freedom of Korea. The Philippines sent the largest number of troops among all Asian nations. Just as the noble sacrifices of the Philippines greatly contributed to what Korea is today, the commitments that President Marcos and I have made today will serve as a solid foundation for bringing greater prosperity to the peoples of our two countries.

The Korea–Philippines Summit held on the anniversary of our diplomatic ties served as an opportunity to open a new chapter in our shared future.

First, we will enhance the utilization of the Korea-Philippines FTA to expand bilateral trade and investment between our two countries, thereby achieving mutually beneficial growth. We also agreed to strengthen cooperation in strategic industries, including infrastructure, the defense industry, and shipbuilding.

By expanding the scope of cooperation in new growth engines such as shipbuilding, nuclear energy, AI, and digitalization, we will jointly respond to the evolving global economic landscape. The more our two countries join forces, the greater the synergy and shared prosperity we will achieve.

President Marcos and I shared the common understanding that vibrant cultural and people-to-people exchanges serve as a solid bridge connecting our two countries, and we agreed to further expand these ties based on the MOUs on Korean Language Education and Cultural Cooperation signed today.

Last but not least, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to President Marcos for his active support in protecting the lives and safety of Korean nationals in the Philippines, notably through the establishment of "Korean Help Desks" at Philippine police stations. The Korean government will also remain committed to ensuring the safety of Filipino nationals working in Korea and the stability of multicultural families.

I hope this summit will serve as an opportunity to further deepen the friendship and cooperation between Korea and the Philippines. The beautiful fireworks set against the backdrop of palm trees and the sea will remain in my memory for a long time. My sincere thanks go to President Marcos and to the people of the Philippines for your warm and gracious hospitality.
