한미우호의 밤 행사 축사

존경하는 주한미군 복무장병과 내외 귀빈 여러분!

호국보훈의 달 6월을 맞아, 한미 양국의 오랜 우정을 더욱 돈독하게 하기 위한
행사가 개최된 것을 대단히 기쁘고 뜻깊게 생각합니다.

먼저, 사랑하는 가족과 고국을 떠나 머나먼 이국땅에서
대한민국의 평화와 안보를 든든히 지켜주시는
주한미군 복무장병님들께 대한민국 정부와 국민을 대표하여
깊은 감사의 마음을 전합니다.

아울러, 오늘 행사를 정성껏 준비해 주신
한미우호협회 <황진하> 회장님과 관계자분들,
그리고 <조셉 윤> 주한 미국대사 대리님을 비롯한
함께해 주신 모든 분들께도 깊이 감사드립니다.

75년 전, 6·25전쟁이 발발하자
미국은 유엔안전보장이사회의 즉각적인 파병 결정을 주도하며,
22개 유엔참전국 중 가장 먼저, 그리고 가장 많은 약 180만 명의 병력을 파병했습니다.

그 숭고한 희생과 헌신이 있었기에
오늘의 자유롭고 번영하는 대한민국이 존재할 수 있습니다.

정전협정 체결 이후에도 미군은 한반도의 평화와 안정을 위해
압도적인 전쟁 억지력을 제공하며,
한미동맹의 굳건한 초석이 되어주고 있습니다.

350만 주한미군 복무장병 여러분의 헌신과 노고는
대한민국 국민 모두의 가슴 속에 깊이 새겨져 있습니다.

대한민국 정부와 국민은
참전용사와 주한미군 복무장병 여러분의
희생과 헌신을 결코 잊지 않을 것이며,
그 숭고한 정신을 영원히 기리고 계승해 나갈 것입니다.

오늘 이 자리가 한미동맹의 소중한 가치를 다시금 되새기고,
한미 양국이 함께 이룬 위대한 역사와 성취를
미래세대에 이어나가는 더욱 귀중한 계기가 되기를 바랍니다.

다시 한번 주한미군 복무장병 여러분께
깊은 존경과 감사의 말씀을 드리며,
오늘 함께하신 모든 분들의 건강과 행복을 기원합니다.

Distinguished service members of the United States Forces Korea,
Honored guests, ladies and gentlemen,

As we mark the Month of Patriots and Veterans this June, I am truly pleased and honored that this June Festival is being held to further strengthen the long-standing friendship between Korea and the United States.

First, on behalf of the government and people of the Republic of Korea, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the service members of the United States Forces Korea, who have left behind their beloved families and homeland to defend the peace and security of Korea in this distant land.

I also wish to sincerely thank President Hwang Jin-ha of the Korea America Friendship Society, the organizing team behind today’s event, and Acting U.S. Ambassador to Korea, Mr. Joseph Yun, along with all the distinguished guests joining us here today.

Seventy-five years ago, when the Korean War broke out, the United States led the UN Security Council to swiftly deploy troops. It sent the largest number of soldiers among the 22 participating nations— nearly 1.8 million in total.

Because of that noble sacrifice and dedication, the Republic of Korea today stands as a free and prosperous nation.

Even after the signing of the Armistice, U.S. forces have played a vital role in maintaining peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula. With strong deterrence, they have been the foundation of the ROK-US Alliance.

The dedication and service of the 3.5 million USFK service members who have served in Korea over the years will always be remembered and respected by the Korean people.

The Korean government and its people will never forget the sacrifices of the Korean War veterans and the ongoing dedication of U.S. service members stationed here. We will forever honor and carry forward their noble spirit.

I hope today’s event will once again remind us of the enduring value of our alliance, and serve as a meaningful moment to pass on the remarkable history and achievements that our two nations have built together to the next generation.

Once again, I offer my deepest respect and thanks to all American service members in Korea, and I wish good health and happiness to everyone here today.
