First of all, we hope the eyeglasses we’ve prepared today will bring even a small measure of help and comfort to you.
대한민국을 찾아주신 19개국의 참전용사님들과
유가족 여러분, 재향군인 회장단 여러분, 모두 진심으로 환영합니다.
To all the veterans from the 19 UN Sending States
who have returned to Korea,
to the bereaved families of the fallen,
and to the leaders of veterans’ organizations-
I extend my deepest and warmest welcome.
특히, 어제 ‘유엔군 참전의 날’을 맞아
태극 무공훈장이 추서된 故 <프레드 B. 맥기>님과
국민훈장을 받으신 <카일 오스틴 스캇>님께
다시 한번 축하와 감사를 드립니다.
In particular, on the occasion of yesterday’s UN Forces Participation Day,
I would like to once again offer my sincere congratulations and gratitude to
the late Mr. Fred B. McGEE,
who was posthumously awarded the Taegeuk Order of Military Merit,
and to Mr. Kyle Austin SCOTT, recipient of the Order of Civil Merit.
아울러 이 자리에 함께하신 유엔 참전국 주한대사님, 무관님,
그리고 미래의 연대를 이어갈 유엔참전용사 후손들과
참전국 학교와 교류 중인 대한민국의 교사․학생 여러분들께도
각별한 환영의 인사를 드립니다.
I also extend a special welcome to the ambassadors and defense attachés of the UN Sending States,
to the descendants of UN veterans who carry on their legacy,
and to the Korean teachers and students engaged in exchanges with schools in the UN Sending States.

75년 전, 유엔참전용사님들께서는
이름도 모르는 먼 나라 대한민국의 평화를 위해
청춘을 바치셨습니다.
Seventy-five years ago, you came to defend peace in a faraway country you had never known-Korea-giving your youth for its freedom.
용사님들이 보여주신 위대한 용기로 이 땅은 지켜질 수 있었고,
차디찬 전장에서 피워낸 따뜻한 인류애로
대한민국 국민들은 새로운 희망을 가질 수 있었습니다.
Thanks to your incredible courage, this land was protected, and through your acts of humanity on the cold and harsh battlefields, the Korean people came to have hope again
오늘날 우리가 누리고 있는 자유와 평화가
용사님들의 희생과 헌신 위에 있음을 결코 잊지 않겠습니다.
We will never forget that the freedom and peace we enjoy today were made possible by your sacrifices and your service.
올해는 6·25전쟁이 발발한 지 75주년이 되는 해입니다.
대한민국은 이 땅의 자유와 평화를 수호한 영웅들을 기억하고,
유엔참전국과의 우정을 더욱 굳건히 할 수 있도록
최선을 다하겠습니다.
This year marks the 75th anniversary of the Korean War.
The Republic of Korea will always remember the heroes who defended our land,
and we will do our utmost to strengthen the bonds of friendship with the UN Sending States.
한 분이라도 더 많은 용사님들을 대한민국으로 모시거나,
직접 현지를 찾아가 저희의 깊은 감사의 마음을 전하겠습니다.
We will continue doing everything we can-whether by bringing more of you back to Korea or visiting you in person-to express our deepest gratitude.
아름다운 청춘을 바친 유엔참전용사님들과
사랑하는 가족을 기꺼이 보내주신 가족 여러분들께
이번 대한민국에서 보내시는 시간이
작지만 따뜻한 위로와 감사의 시간으로 남길 소망합니다.
To the UN veterans who gave your precious youth,
and to the families who sent their loved ones-
we truly hope your time in Korea brings you comfort, and stays in your hearts as a sincere expression of our everlasting thanks.
